Launched by Platinum Blue to Discover New Talent
Songs to be analyzed by Science-Driven Music Xray™ and then evaluated by top A&R executives. Winning Song Produced by Grammy-winning Producer
New York, NY - June 7, 2007
Music Xray™, the technology-driven application that helps major and indie labels, Grammy-wining producers and leading artists accurately predict the success of hit songs is now being used by Platinum Blue to mine talent for the music industry. The company is launching a first-ever song contest whereby judging is partially done by Music Xray™. Winners will get their song produced by Grammy-winning producer Ric Wake. Contestants can enter for $20 per song at www.15megabytesoffame.com.
Music Xray™ looks at the underlying mathematical patterns in music and can identify the presence of the optimal mathematical patterns inherent in most hit songs. Evidence indicates that having optimal mathematical patterns is a necessary condition for mass market appeal. The technology DOES NOT however tell an artist if their song sounds and feels like a hit. That’s an evaluation to be made by “golden ears.” Platinum Blue is working with some of the best in the business to make that evaluation.
Until recently, Platinum Blue’s Music Xray™ service was available only to labels, producers and top artists who pay thousands of dollars for in-depth and advanced Music Xray™ services. Now however, all entrants will receive a Basic Music Xray™ report on their song. Those songs that are determined to conform to optimal mathematical patterns will move on to the next round of judging where A&R executives will evaluate the music. Winning songs of that round will then be sent to Grammy-winning producer, Ric Wake for him alone to decide which song he wants to produce in his state-of-the-art Cove City Sound studio on New York’s Long Island.
Research evidences that historically about 85% of hit songs conform to a limited number of mathematical patterns. The patterns cannot be heard with the human ear, no matter how well trained. Most of the singles that are released and promoted in the market sound and feel like hits but do not rise up the charts and do not provide a return on investment. Sounding and feeling like a hit and being promoted effectively is not enough. The song must also conform to optimal mathematical patterns. Songs that do have optimal mathematical patterns, in addition to sounding and feeling like hits and are also promoted effectively have roughly an 80% chance of market success.
In 1968, American artist Andy Warhol predicted that everyone would have 15 minutes of fame. He didn’t foresee the YouTube and iTunes-driven digital age. If he had, he might have changed the word “minutes” to “megabytes”.
Mike McCready, CEO of Platinum Blue said, “This initiative once again demonstrates we are at the forefront of the NEW music industry. As the market evolves tomorrow’s most successful artists will be increasingly discovered through alternative channels. We are already providing both major labels and new generation music companies with talent leads and hit songs. This is another way we’re helping the music industry harness today’s most interesting technologies as practical real-world solutions.”
